New York Celtic Dancers: Class Description

1.)    BEGINNER/Technique: This session introduces the positions and dance vocabulary of Scottish dance to beginners, and provides an opportunity to learn the traditional dances at a relaxed pace.  Attention will be paid to exercises geared toward improving positions and reinforcing the muscle memory of Scottish dance movements. The goal of this class is to prepare dancers for a performance in a traditional dance for performance at Burns Night (January) for the Fall session and/or NYC Tartan Week (April) for the Spring session.  The cost of the class is $15.

2.)    ADVANCED/Performance: The advanced class moves at a faster pace.  Dancers are expected to have a certain amount of knowledge of/ability to retain steps and performance combinations.  More challenging dances will be tackled and a higher attention will be paid to refining dances for performance.  Attendance at the advanced class is at the discretion of the Director; select advanced students may be invited to perform at regular NYCD gigs.  Advanced students are encouraged to attend the beginner session as a base (a discounted fee will be offered for attending both classes).  The cost of the class is $15.

Dancers may pay on a per-class basis for the initial three classes.  Remaining classes may be paid on a per-session basis.  If you are interested in attending, please email your interest to info@NYCDancers.org.
